Step Down, Mr. President
A Letter to The President
Good Day Mr. President,
I am writing you this letter to tell my opinions about the recent happenings in our country especially under your term. I am a student and a citizen of this country and I wanted to be a voice of the silenced even if only through writing a letter to you.
First of all, the Covid-19 pandemic gave us the highest number of deaths, gave us the most dreadful illness, gave us the poorest time, and it gave us an imprisoned life. In times like this, who would the people turn to? The government. The government who have the duty to protect its country and its people, the government who are voted and paid (through taxes) to assist citizens of the country especially through a pandemic. But what did the people get in return? A slow, incompetent inaccurate and poor response. People are not crying for you to give them everything. Instead, people are shouting for you to do your responsibilities. People elected you to sit there, people hired you to serve them and yet in return, you do nothing but speak about those that are against you, you do nothing but spit your unmannered and uncultured curses to anyone who gets in your way, in national television where everyone including the children, watches and hears you. All we ask is a proper response to the pandemic, all we ask is free mass testing, all we ask is free vaccination, all we ask is for you to do your job as a president and as a public servant/ Aren't you ashamed that we are at the bottom when it comes to this pandemic response? the world has 195 countries yet we are at the last place in dealing with it. Why? We aren't poor. There are countries poorer than us but are now living their lives. Why? Because they have good governance which our country clearly lacks. The government borrowed trillions of money with the excuse of Covid response. Where are they now? I'm sure it isn't with the people because if it is really indeed given to the people, we would have been out of our houses doing whatever we want to do. Second, why are you turning a blind eye on the corruption that is clearly happening in the country? It is even given with proper and accurate evidences. I don't understand why instead of firing and imprisoning those who pocketed billions, you rather promote them in higher offices. Third, your extrajudicial killings. You said it was a was on drugs so I don't know why it became a war against people. If drugs are the enemies here, why would we kill people instead of giving them probation and help them be freed from drugs? Furthermore, people are killed only with the assumption that they are on drugs. They are not proven to be on drugs. So why are you basing your lists through the reports of people who clearly don't have an accurate eye for it? Why not let them go through the correct process by law? Why would you order them to be killed? It must be easy for you to lift your finger and tell the police to shoot whoever, but how about the people killed? Their families? Even with all the readings I make, and no matter how I try to understand your speeches, it never made sense not even once. I never understood any of your actions, any of your opinions. So by writing this, I wanted to know why you're doing this. Is it for the money? For power? For what?
Mr. President, even when most of the time, you don't respect people, I am addressing you respectfully. After all, you are voted in that position. Mr. President, even when you curse so much in your speeches, I am writing this letter in a formal way. It's because even when the President of this country is an incompetent, disrespectful, uncultured, and unmannered President, why would I, a student and a citizen follow your footsteps? I am writing this letter to tell you that we, the citizens deserve better than you. If you can't be better, if you can't be the better president for us, you should step down that position and put an end to our misery. I, Sophia Lorraine Alasaas, a citizen of the country is asking you, President Rodrigo Duterte, to step down from that position. We are not toys that you can play anytime you want. Stop your game and step down. We, the people are demanding you that.
Sincerely yours,
Sophia Lorraine Alasaas
